I am amazed at the capabilities of my kids sometimes. My son has almost single-handedly given his Bible school teacher a nervous breakdown. I feel bad for my friend, Ellen, who has suddenly found the class thrust upon herself, but I can't help but marvel at how he DID it. I know he's hyper and I'll bet you the farm that he's ADHD (unfortunately, testing isn't very accurate until age 9), but still. I talked with my sister about it, and she's pretty convinced that his teacher probably tried to make him be LIKE THE OTHER KIDS. Nope. When you have a, well, "special needs" kid (I hate that label, but I don't know what to call it), you have to work with who they are. One of his favorite teachers expected very little of him. "As long as I had plenty of plain, white paper and crayons, he was happy," she declared. He's going to a speech path on the 31st--the next pit-stop on this weird road of Eef discovery.
On a lighter note, Livi is showing promise of some mad skills. She was leaning over the tub, playing with Ethan's bathwater when we noticed her cheeks looked suspiciously puffy. "Livi, what do you have in your mouth," B asked her. He dug out a hair barrette. "Yuck...wait...I think there's something else," I remarked. Sure enough, B dug out another barrette. About that time, her little tongue pushed a 3RD BARRETTE out, but she quickly tried to push it back in. B and I were laughing, and he said in an Anne Ramsey voice a la "the Goonies:" "OH...MY..GOSH. You're the one they call the Mouth!" She's like a little hamster, hiding treats in her cheeks. Could be worse. I am forever glad that Eef's "Let's stick something in my butt hole because it can stay!" phase was short-lived. Isn't motherhood a treasure? All the same, I love my babies and all the weirdness that they bring.
Speaking of babies--Livi is having her last bottle today. We've had her down to one bottle for quite a while, but we wanted to use up the can of formula (that stuff's expensive!). It's so bittersweet. I hated buying formula, but I'll miss that post-nap bottle with her nursing and snuggling with me. Since Livi is our last, this is truly the end of an era--no more baby! I'll have to live vicariously through others. Livi is slowly turning into a sweet, funny, talkative girl. So, while it's hard to say good-bye to Baby Livi, Little Girl Livi is proving to be fun and sweet. Here's to new adventures and discoveries!
